Have you ever read Psalm 123? It’s a beautiful psalm in which the psalm writer gives his secret away. He is obviously grieving over his current condition. But in verse 1 he says, “To you I lift up my eyes, O you who are enthroned in the heavens!” And then he further discloses the one to whom he calls on in verse 2; the LORD our God. Isn’t this beautiful? He expresses himself in his waiting upon the Lord for rescue. He’s not taking the matter in his own hands. He cries out for mercy in verse 3 and expresses the root of the problem. Here is the whole psalm:
Unto thee lift I up my eyes,
O thou that dwellest in the
heavens.
Behold, as the eyes of servants
look unto the hand of their
masters,
and as the eyes of a maiden unto
the hand of her mistress;
so our eyes wait upon the LORD
our God, until that he have
mercy upon us.
Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have
mercy upon us:
for we are exceedingly filled with
contempt.
Our soul is exceedingly filled
with the scorning of those that are
at ease,
and with the contempt of the
proud.
And then what is written in the following psalm but a documentation of relief. In it King David writes:
Psalm 124
If it had not been the LORD
who was on our side,
now may Israel say;
if it hand not been the LORD who
was on our side,
when men rose up against us:
Then they had swallowed us up
quick,
when their wrath was kindled
against us:
Then the water had overwhelmed us,
the stream had gone over our soul:
Then the proud waters
had gone over our soul.
Blessed be the LORD,
who hath not given us as a prey
to their teeth.
Our soul is escaped as a bird out of
the snares of the fowlers:
the snare is broken, and we are escaped.
Our help is in the name of the Lord,
who made heaven and earth.
So, no matter what is weighing heavily upon your soul today, turn it over to the LORD, through Jesus Christ, he is strong enough to carry you!
